All roads lead to Mbombela Stadium on 27 April 2024 where the annual Metro FM Music Awards are set to take place.
The annual award ceremony is one of the most highly anticipated events in the music industry because it is one of the platforms that celebrate local music talent. Not forgetting the lavish red carpet where media personalities show up in style.
From jazz veterans such as Vusi Mahlasela to It pop artists such as Tyla, there are a variety of artists who have been nominated, with some receiving more than one honour.

But before the big night, we found out how some of the nominees are feeling about their nod and what their expectations for the night are.
Nomfundo Moh
Phakade Lami hitmaker Nomfundo Moh says she is extremely excited for the nomination and that this is a proof that she is doing well. She has been nominated for Best African Pop.
"I'm super excited for the nomination! It somehow boosted my confidence in knowing that I'm doing great in my respective genre."
As much as Nomfundo Moh appreciates the nomination, she is also aware that there are other talented musicians who are nominated and the competition is tough. She says, "All the nominees are great creatives and whoever wins will be much deserving. Win or no win, for us it wouldn't be a big deal. I've already won people's hearts."
Nontokozo Mkhize
“Yho! It’s crazy and it’s overwhelming,” said Nontokozo Mkhize who has been nominated for Best New Artist and Best R&B. “I was not expecting to be nominated anytime soon but ke we serve a beautiful God. So yeah, we are here and we are nominated. I’m grateful, it’s amazing nje,” she says.
“I would love to win,” says, highlighting how big of a deal this nomination is for her and how it will have a great impact on her career. “I trust my people ukuthi they will come through for me.”
Mr Nation Thingz
Another newcomer in the music industry Mr Nation Thingz, who went viral with his hit single Hade Boss.
Wandile Manake, who is the manager of Mr Nation Thingz, says “We [are] very honoured and very grateful because Mr Nation Thingz just started now coming up, being in public more and people getting to see his talent and what he is about. So, for best gqom and Kwaito nominee at the Metro’s it's beyond our expectations, like we couldn’t believe.”
However, he believes that the hard work that they have put in to produce and promote the song is paying off. They are also confident that they will be winning the nomination.
“Obviously, hands down we expecting to win the award. The song is big, it has big numbers, its unique, it’s fusion between gqom and piano,” Wandile says.
