Nombanjane residents in the Eastern Cape are building themselves a health facility for a visiting nurse so they no longer have to travel 23km to visit a clinic.
After years of travelling to the next village to get medication and medical attention, and asking the Department of Health for a clinic, they say they have come up with their own solution.
Residents have spent close to R200 000 to build themselves a three-room face brick facility which they say will be especially helpful for the elderly in the area. They hired a local person to build it.
