When Lizzy Nyako, 69, from Zone 5 in Diepkloof, Soweto, heard that former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe was campaigning in the area on Friday morning, she was excited about the opportunity to ask him why she had not received the RDP house she had registered for in 1996.
Her hopes, however, were dashed in the afternoon when Motlanthe's campaign programme was abruptly changed, without any explanation.
Sitting on an open field, where ANC-branded van speakers blasted songs about party president Cyril Ramaphosa, Nyako arrived at the open space next to the Engen petrol station in Ward 28, Diepkloof's Zone 1, at around 09:00 because she wanted to tell Motlanthe about the issues plaguing the community.
