The construction company selected to undertake the highly technical and intricate demolition work at the National Assembly building in Cape Town, Maziya General Services, has a history of delays and cost overruns in a raft of government contracts - and, in one instance, price-fixing collusion.

The company, directed by Chris Delport, has apparently carved a niche securing tenders nationwide from a variety of state entities. This is despite Maziya's track record being blighted by concern over their handling of government projects - which have seen costs spiralling and timelines extending far beyond initial estimates.

In 2018, the Competition Commission fined Maziya R300 000 for colluding on a City Power tender with Cromico Trading – a company directed by Delport's daughter, Robyn Hazel Delport.
