We know January is a month when people make changes in their lives. These changes also apply when it comes to marital status. For divorce lawyers, January is busy as the divorce process is started or finalised. Divorce attorney Simon Dippenaar of SD Law and Associates says marriage guidance counsellors and divorce lawyers often refer to the first Monday in January as "Divorce Day". January has also been called "Divorce Month".
"In fact, January is not the month when most divorces are finalised because even an amicable, uncontested divorce takes more than a month to conclude. But it is a time when many couples take the first steps towards ending their union," he says.
