More than 80% of speakers in South Africa have a first language other than English. Unfortunately, only 2% of children's books published in South Africa are in our local African languages.
Considering the ripple effect this has on the literacy crisis, Cadbury has set a goal to publish 1 000 stories by the end of 2022 to tackle this situation.
They believe that creating more stories in our home languages will change the statistics, including the fact that 78% of Grade 4 pupils can not read for meaning in our schools.

For this goal to come to life, Cadbury Dairy Milk asks the public to join them and help children fall in love with reading by sharing their authentic Homegrown Stories.
The public can participate by looking out for the Cadbury Homegrown Story Edition packs for all the details on how to unlock their stories.
They can do this by simply scanning the QR code on the pack to open WhatsApp and follow the prompts to share a story in your beloved home language via voice notes, typing your story ending or uploading a PDF.
You can find inspiration from the stories already published in the Cadbury digital library Cadbury digital library here.
