MultiChoice will be forced to share the sports content that it sub-licenses to the SABC with a direct competitor after the Competition Tribunal granted eMedia interim relief on Monday.
eMedia hauled MultiChoice before the tribunal in January, alleging that the owner of DStv was abusing its dominant position in the market to enter into anti-competitive and restrictive sub-licensing agreements with the SABC.
MultiChoice frequently enters into sub-licensing agreements with the SABC to allow the national broadcaster to show premium sports content that MultiChoice acquired the rights to broadcast.
