Hotter temperatures linked to climate change are worsening inequality in South Africa, a new study shows.
The peer-reviewed study was published in the Environmental Research Letters journal on Thursday.
It shows that in South Africa, the lowest inequality levels are achieved in the temperature range of 15°C to 17°C. Breaching this threshold sees the inequality gap among different income groups widen at an increasing rate, with the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in rural areas impacted most.
