ACTRESS Wendy Gumede stepped into content creation because she couldn't get into the TV space.

And it has worked wonders for her. The former Isibaya and Scandal! actress has made a name for herself as one of Mzansi's most loved content creators.

She's been recently announced as the new face and voice for Dark & Lovely's relax hair range.

Wendy (32) spoke to Daily Sun about her journey as an actress, and now building her brand as a content creator as well as her new brand deal.

"I got into content creation because I studied film and TV production and found it hard to get into the industry. So, I created a platform for myself on YouTube and other social media platforms, writing scripts and asking my friends to participate," Wendy said.

"Me coming from the content creation space and landing up in Isibaya and Scandal! is because someone saw that potential in me and gave me a chance. I believe that's what this brand does. So, I knew that going forward, I'd work with brands that support what young people are doing in the industry right now."

Wendy said the brand deal is dedicated to her late mum.

"It's meaningful because my late mum, who passed on when I was 11 years old, was the first person to introduce me to the concept of self-love, and she did that by doing my hair. I never stepped into a salon, and she always made sure I rocked a great hairstyle at school. She did whatever hairstyle I wanted, and that's something I carried with me.

"And for this to happen, I feel it's been ordained by her. I'll get to use some of the tricks she's taught me all those years. I didn't know this partnership was coming, but I have a feeling she did, and prepared me for it. I also feel she's somewhere in heaven rejoicing," she said.

Even though Wendy hasn't been on TV for over a year, she hasn't left the space altogether.

"There's a lot of things coming from me when it comes to TV, especially my writing. I've written for about three upcoming Netflix shows, but I can't mention them right now. There's lots of exciting things coming out this year."
