Kindness is free.
Think about it, it costs you nothing to say something sweet that may lift someone's spirits, smile at another who may be having an off day or go the extra mile to lighten someone else's load. In most cases, kindness won't cost you a thing.
And even though it did for this young man, he put someone else before himself anyway.
His mom wrote in to tell us about his heartwarming act of kindness.
"My 19-year-old son went to the U.S.A. for three months to work at a camp. After the 3 months he toured the States and travelled by bus to each place.
His journey from Miami to Los Angeles turned a bit upside down when the bus broke down at the bus station. He was stranded with other passengers for 14 hours. The bus management finally told them the next buses would be available at 10pm and 2am so they could decide which bus they wanted to take. But there was not enough space for everyone. To cut a long story short, he took the 2am bus.
When I asked him, 'Why did you take the later bus after all that wait?' he said, ‘Mummy there was one seat left on the bus. This lady with her 3 kids, one being a baby and the other two toddlers, had to stay back as there was no place for them. So I decided to stay back with her so I could help her. While she looked after her 1-year-old baby, I was with the toddlers entertaining them and giving them my phone to play games. It just made things easier for her.'
I said, 'Okay,' with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.
Regards,
Proud mom of Dante Mcykle Naicker, Adel Naicker"
