Oaky and the Virus is fast becoming a favourite book choice among South African parents who want to help their young children understand the coronavirus without creating fear and anxiety.
It's already been downloaded more than 4 000 times via Read to Rise, an NGO promoting literacy and education in South Africa.
The book was created by husband and wife duo, author Athol Williams and illustrator Taryn Lock, who founded Read to Rise.
"I love working with children; they are our future, says Lock, who believes that "it is important that we do all that we can for children now so that our country's future is brighter."

The duo tells Parent24 that the book is effective because it was created to be both simple and stimulating.
They are now making an online version of Oaky and the Virus free for download.
