WATCH: Adorable local tot doing the 'Don't eat it' challenge has South Africans crying with laughter

Testing toddler patience is the aim of the game in the latest trend to capture the internet. 

It's called the #fruitsnackchallenge or the 'Don't eat it' challenge and has moms putting sweets in front of their little ones, but there's a catch: the tot must wait for mom to return from the bathroom before eating the treats. 

It's a throwback to a 1970s psychological test called the marshmallow test which could supposedly predict how well a child would fair later in life. 

And while the accuracy of the experiment has since come into question, watching the little ones undergo 'testing' is just too adorable for words.

Local mom, Nthabiseng Mathole, could not resist doing the challenge with her tot, Leruo, and the two have got South Africans in stitches.  

In the video, we see Nthabiseng explain the challenge to Leruo and then leaves while filming her little girl's reaction. 

At first, she forgets to wait and helps herself to a treat, but a timely reminder from mom calling from the other room, and the sweet is quickly put back into the bowl. 

The cutie pie then proceeds to explain to the sweets what's going to happen the second mommy returns.
