How often does one get asked to write a continuation of their fave childhood book? Well, Viola Davis did!

Oscar-winning actress Viola will be releasing a children’s book, Corduroy Takes a Bow.

The 52-year old How to Get Away with Murder star used books as an escape from her painful childhood and her favourite one was Don Freeman’s Corduroy Takes a Bow because she could identify with one of its characters, the teddy bear’s friend Lisa who’s a black girl.

Viola says this opportunity is very important to her not only because of what the book did for her as a child, but also because she feels honoured to be writing stories for other young black girls, including her 6-year-old daughter, Genesis Tennon.

“When I was a little girl it wasn’t often I found myself reflected in the pages of a book. Corduroy was an exception, and I adored flipping through it. To be able to introduce a new generation, including my daughter, to this character that was so special to me in my childhood is an incredible honour,” she said.

Viola’s version of the book was released on the 50th anniversary of the original book, 4 September 2018.

She took to Instagram to share how excited she is:
