Mom of 10 boys thrilled to welcome 11th baby – and it’s a girl!

A mom of 10 boys has announced she's welcomed an 11th baby – but this time it's a beautiful baby girl!

Alexis Brett (39) thought she and husband Davie would be welcoming another little boy after their first 10 children were all male.

So sure were the pregnant couple that they’d have another son, they almost didn't bother asking the sonographer what gender their baby was.

The family from Inverness in Scotland were left dumbstruck when they found out a little girl would be joining them after 17 years of boys running around.

And now they're thrilled that baby Cameron has arrived to join their family of 13.

"We’re absolutely in love with her,” fitness instructor Alexis said. "The whole family is besotted.

"Whenever we have brought a new baby home, the family is thrilled and want to help, but this time the boys have been even more excited.

"They’re desperate to help out and want to do everything for her.

"Everyone wants to help put her in pretty dresses and her brothers are very protective of her."

Alexis says she and Davie, who’s a train driver and also suffers from early-onset Parkinson's disease, really didn’t think they “were capable of making a girl”.

"We decided to do a little gender reveal for the family though, as the boys were so excited – when we opened the envelope and found out we were having a girl, I thought they'd got it wrong.

"It would have been just as exciting to have another son, because I love having boys – but I am thrilled that I'm not quite so outnumbered at home anymore."

Alexis and Davie chose the name Cameron as soon as they found out they’d be having a baby girl, when she was just 17 weeks' pregnant.

"It's funny, because obviously Cameron can be a name for a boy or a girl, but we just fell in love with it.

"We have always tried to give our children unusual names and Cameron is definitely more unusual for a girl.

"We did laugh and say people might just think that we couldn't think of any traditional girl's names though!" the mom said.

The couple say they were nervous about having a girl after so many years of boys.

"By the time number four had come along, Davie and I thought we had everything sussed. There was a routine for everything, we thought we'd been there and done it all.

"But a girl will be totally different. Everything just seems so strange – it feels as though we're doing it for the first time again.

"I'm already worried about learning to plait hair

"It feels very surreal to open the wardrobe and see little pink babygrows and dresses in there.

"I have loved being able to choose girly outfits and dress her up."

Alexis will have to find time to look after her new arrival in among her very busy daily routine.

The family does two big shops a week, with Alexis doing a top-up shop every day, to replenish the milk and two loaves of bread the family goes through every day.

She has two double-size fridge freezers which are filled to the brim and then emptied soon after with 10 growing boys eating.

Far from relaxing at home with her newborn, Alexis has had to fit in changing nappies and feeds, around five loads of washing a day and vacuuming up to eight times.

The super-mom even plans to go back to work in just a few weeks' time – as she plans to fit in teaching classes around her husband's busy job and the children's routine.

But the couple insists Cameron will be their last child.

"We're definitely not having any more. I will turn 40 this year, and Davie's condition does mean that we do sometimes find it hard going,” Alexis said.

“Everyone joked that if we'd had another boy we would have had our own football team, but we definitely won't be adding any more to our brood.

“Lots of people assume we have had so many children because we have kept trying for a girl but that's absolutely not the case.

“It just works out as a lovely way to complete our family.

“We wouldn't change it for the world.”
