A proud mom shared the magical moment her four-year-old daughter helped deliver her baby brother during a home birth.
April Wild welcomed her third child – a little boy called Grayson – after opting for a water birth at her home in Cheshire, England.
The 29-year-old, who teaches hypnobirthing and pregnancy yoga, wanted to be surrounded by those she loved during labour and that’s exactly what she got when her daughter, River, decided to jump in the pool and help mom bring her sibling into the world.
In the pictures shared, April can be seen in the pool alongside her husband, a doula, and River who was dressed in a swimming costume.
“River has been involved in the pregnancy from the start really,” April recalls.
“She told me she wanted to be woken up and I’m so glad she did because it was a real bonding experience.”
Although the mother-of-three was worried at first that she’d feel distracted during the birth with her daughter right there, she actually found it was quite the opposite.
“She kept asking what she could do to help,” she says.
“She was copying the doula and telling me to breathe and stay calm.”
As labour got underway River got involved in the experience further still, reaching down to hold little Grayson’s hand and gently stroking his head as he emerged into the world.
“It was so peaceful and I’ll never forget her face when he arrived. She was delighted and hasn’t stopped talking about the experience since.”
“It wasn’t until I saw the photographs afterwards that I realised how involved she actually was,” the proud mom adds.
