It’s a cause for frustration many parents share – a teenager who simply refuses to clean their room.
So when BBC presenter Nicky Campbell took to Twitter to vent about his daughter’s untidy room, several other parents quickly jumped on the bandwagon.
Nicky posted a tweet to his more than 141 000 followers, showing the teen’s messy bedroom. She was back home from university, according to Daily Mail.
Her bedroom floor was covered in clothes, bags, books, fluffy toys and makeup.
“This is completely unacceptable,” he wrote. “You’re nearly 19 years old and I’m bloody sick of it. I don’t care that you were going to tidy it up. It just really p***** me off.”
His tweet seemed to have sparked a battle between parents to see whose child has the most chaotic room.
“Mate, that’s nothing. Amateurish even. THIS is untidy!” one parent chimed in.
While another parent shared her frustration at her 20-year-old’s bedroom floor, strewn with clothes and other belongings.
However relatable it might have been to some, others found it to be a bit harsh, adds The Sun. Nicky’s tweet, which garnered more than 6 500 likes, was referred to as inappropriate.
“Really, very, very unfair use of power imbalance. Most inappropriate,” one user commented.
But Nicky quickly jumped in to make it clear the tweet carried the approval of his daughter and was shared in jest.
“It’s a comic trope – a joke – familiar to parents of teenagers,” he wrote in reply. “We laughed and she helped me with the photograph. She’s the funniest person I know. She makes me laugh out loud but is very untidy.”
