Comedian Mpho Popps has been on stage making jokes for a decade now, and says it takes a decade to become an overnight success. The father of a six-year-old daughter explains his parenting style as liberal and supports his daughter in every decision she takes.

PARENTING IS NO JOKE

Even though his daughter is still young, the 33-year-old father says he is instilling confidence in his little girl.

“When I was growing up I struggled with confidence and it’s something I don’t want her to go through. I’m teaching her to be confidence, to be outspoken and that she is an amazing woman, like her dad,” he teases.

“I never thought I would be, but I am a liberal parent. If my daughter wants to play tennis than that is exactly what she will. If she doesn’t want to plat her hair, then no one is going to pull her hair,” he adds.

His upcoming show

The comedian is going to be busy until the end of November with his new comedy tour titled ‘Black in the Day’.

The show talks about growing in a developing South Africa in the 90’s. “It’s about going to ‘white’ schools and beingone of the few black students.

Leaving the dusty location to study in the suburbs with tarred roads and street lights. It’s some of these experiences that made me who I am today,” shares Mpho. He kicked off his tour in Port Elizabeth this past Friday was full packed.

“I felt honoured to be a Tswana man in the Eastern Cape to receive such much love,” he admits. Tickets to ‘Black in My Day’ are available from Computicket from as little as R200.
