Hair Love is an animated short film that tells the heartfelt story of an African American father learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time.
Matthew A. Cherry collaborated with Sony Pictures Animation on the short film, motivated by the lack of representation of father and daughter relationships in the media.
The concept was launched as a Kickstarter campaign in 2017, with a fundraising goal of $75 000, but quickly accumulated nearly $300 000 (over R4 400 000), making it the most highly-funded short film campaign in kickstarter history.
Fans of the video commented "Well, that was the most adorable thing I've ever seen" and "Wait cause I’m sobbing. Oh how I needed this when I was little - this is so beautiful"... get your tissues ready!
