While we certainly have come a long way, growing up in a world still rife with intolerance and bias can be overwhelmingly challenging for a child with dreams so big that others can’t bear to let them be. Our differences should not, however, be but another obstacle preventing us from making our dreams come true.
In a new campaign #LoveOverBias, Proctor and Gamble, a sponsor for the 2018 Olympic Games explains that we should “aspire to a world where everyone is equally free to pursue their dreams, no matter who you are, where you come from, who you love or how you worship”. And nowhere is love over bias, which can just about overcome any sort of adversity, more apparent, than between that of a mother and child.

On the #LoveOverBias page, they’ve shared the stories of Michelle Kwan, a figure skater whose mom stayed up through the night to sew every single bead and crystal to her constumes that her family couldn’t afford to buy.
And Zahra Lari, who became the first figure skater in hijab to compete at the international level in 2012 with the help of her mother who helped her through the negative comments about her religion.
Initially Zahra was told that her hijab was not an approved part of her costume and judges deducted points for it. But after petitioning with the help of her mother, the rule was amended.

A mom often sees potential where no one else does and by nurturing this potential and believing in our kids, we have the power to lift and propel them to unimaginable heights.
So imagine if the world could see what a mom sees.
