"Alex and my kids are my everything": Jennifer Lopez and her new fiancé make life as a blended family look easy

“Our kids have become best friends and that keeps us both grounded and appreciative.”
“Our kids have become best friends and that keeps us both grounded and appreciative.”

Is there anything Jennifer Lopez cannot do?

Dynamic career aside, she's been our body goals for the better part of 20 years now, and with her recent engagement to former professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez, the icon is now giving us blended family goals as well.

The newly engaged couple are so similar, they have both matching nicknames and matching children!

JLo is mom to 11-year-old twins Max and Emme, her children with former husband Marc Anthony, and A-Rod is dad to daughters Ella (10) and Natasha (14), his children with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis.

It's easy to mistake the soon-to-be family of 6 for the more traditional type but the family resemblance is an indicator of just how close their children have become.

Together since 2017, Jennifer and Alex have been clear that what makes their relationship work so well is all down to the value they both place on family.

In an interview with PeopleTV, Jennifer opened up about just how much her blended family means to her, calling them her "main purpose" in life.

"Alex and my kids are my everything, they're my main purpose for doing everything that I do because they're my loves... my kids, Alex and his kids, all of us together creating this beautiful life and this family.

"All the things that I do in my professional life I'm always thinking, 'Would they be proud of this?'"

Sharing his take on their beautiful family, Alex told People that their children have become best friends.

“We couldn’t have asked for anything better than the four of them getting along as they do.”

One big happy family

Since her divorce in 2014, Jennifer has been adamant about positively co-parenting her twins with her former husband.

She told Huffington Post that she feels it her duty to always reassure her children about how much their father loves them, especially during long absences.

"I feel it's my responsibility as a mom when their dad is not there to let them know that their dad loves them very much because that's the doubt that they have when he's not around or they haven't seen him. That's my job to do that the same way it's his job when he's with them to say 'Mommy is working and she loves you.'"

Marc Anthony has even made an appearance on Alex's Instagram.

And it's evident that Alex's former wife feels the same.

"We always put the kids first so they would grow and have emotional wellness and not feel a lot of the tugging that you see sometimes in families that are divorced," Cynthia told ABC News

Looks like the Lopez and Rodriguez families have wholeheartedly embraced the 'it takes a village approach', and by the obvious joy in their children's faces, maybe that's the secret to making it work as a blended family?
