I’m sure the kids have been brainstorming ideas for market day for weeks now. But if you’ve got a child, like us, who really puts their heart and soul into coming up with something different to the usual bake sale bites, you might be struggling to settle on an idea.
We’ve put together a video showing you how to make packets of themed popcorn, which is both quick and easy, as well as a treat for the kids who will be thrilled by a few of their favourite themes. Bunny Bait (just in time for Easter)

Tips and tricks
- You can use pre-popped popcorn, microwave popcorn or, if you’ve got the time, buy kernals and make your own – it’s the most inexpensive of your options. You can also spice your popcorn however you’d like. Here’s a trick: instead of salt, use icing sugar or both icing and salt for a sweet and salty mix. The kids will love it!
- If you’re making your popcorn the night before, don’t forget to seal it in a container – it’ll go soft by the morning if you don’t. We’d also suggest only adding your sweeties in the morning; some of the sweets can make the popcorn go soft if you leave it over night.
- If you want to make things a little more interesting, add a “make your own mix”. Send the kids to school with empty packets and separate containers for the popcorn and each different sweet. Kids can then come up to their table and mix and match with a small scoop. However, if market days at their school are particularly chaotic, we wouldn’t suggest this. Because we’re sure these themed popcorn packs will have kids lining up at their stall!
