Before my son was born, breastfeeding was not an option I would consider but when he arrived I immediately wanted to breastfeed him, and 7 months into this journey the idea of stopping brings tears to my eyes.
Will I breastfeed past infancy? I want to.
But how long a mother breastfeeds shouldn't even be up for discussion.
Celebrity mom, Nkateko Dinwiddy also known as 'Takkies' is no stranger to long term breastfeeding and talks about her breastfeeding journey on her Youtube channel.
After having read that South Africa is not breastfeeding friendly, Takkies wanted to hear what her fans thought of this and took to Instagram to share her (mostly frowned upon) details about long-term breastfeeding.
"I can’t believe that I’m still breastfeeding almost 19 months later and I’m still loving it," she admitted.
"Why? Because despite all the kicks, slaps, scratches, bites and the continuous pokes nothing compares to the bonding experience. It also seems to help [Sana] with her immunity so she’s rarely sick. And in the rare moments that she’s upset, it’s comforting for her," she explained.
"Some days are more challenging than others and it’s definitely not always easy," she admitted.
Despite the hard days, Takkies enjoys this journey and has definitely got the pair closer.
"The entertaining part is that Sana is at an age where she is trying to talk and now she tells me to sit down so she can get closer to her milk. Even worse is she now tries to whip out my milk machines in public and latches right there and then. I read the other day that South Africa is not breast feeding friendly enough. What do you guys think?"
