We underestimate just how important it is that parents feel confident enough to trust their instincts and choose a parenting style they feel comfortable with.

A mother knows her child’s needs before the baby is born, even if she doesn't realise it at the time, and understanding baby's cues brings comfort to both mom and baby.

That is why this parent and baby book is a great read for all parents, parents-to-be and even anyone who cares for a child from time to time.

It is easy for a new mom to question if you are doing the right thing for your baby, especially when there are so many opinions. Enters this blessing of a book that is none judgmental and reassures parents that following your instincts is also as good.

"Love received and love given"

The ultimate goal is to create a nurturing and loving environment where baby will thrive. Marina says the most important thing for babies is love.

"Love received and love given. The intimate human contact of one toward another… caring, attachment, knowing, commitment, meeting of need, willingness to sacrifice, enchantment, delight in, pain – the full human catastrophe in fact."

Marina Petropulos prepares parents for pregnancy to birth and beyond. She informs parents well about their children’s behaviour while taking into account each child’s individualism.

More importantly, her advice builds confidence in knowing that this little person fully relies on you in order to thrive so doing whatever you can to create comfort for him is not spoiling.

The book puts emphasis on nurturing, love and human interaction and Marina acknowledges that "birth is a traumatic experience for the child, and that the infant should be introduced into the world with gentleness."

So, I did not feel guilty that I could be spoiling my newborn when I had him in a baby wrap during the day.

Taking him to the kitchen, to the shops, cleaning and making food in that way I familiarised him to the sounds of the world in the gentlest way I knew how and now having read Marina’s book three months later I feel confident in what I did for him.

Really worth the read

It is a book for everyone and is the best investment for parents who want to have peace of mind in knowing that what they are doing for their child now can have a positive impact in their development in the future.

It guides and tackles every question you may have about your baby from the grossest to even the foolish ones.

The handbook gives me confirmation that I have to trust myself that I know my baby well.
