South Africa claimed silver in the men's 4x400m final at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas on Sunday (Monday SA time), earning 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk his first medal in seven years, even though he did not run the final race.

Having already booked their Paris Olympic qualification in the heats with the help of 2016 Olympic gold medallist Van Niekerk, the South African team, thanks to a sensational final lap charge from Lythe Pillay, powered through to seal second place in the final in Nassau.
