Super smoothies during your pregnancy

Smoothies are a very good way to up your fruit and vegetable intake during pregnancy. If you’re organised and stock your freezer with fruit and veg portions in freezer bags, you’ll always have the healthy ingredients you need to make a super smoothie.

All you have to add is a liquid – milk, juice or water – and you have a quick and healthy anytime meal or snack.

1. GREAT GREEN SMOOTHIE

Ingedients: 

green apples, cored (wash well and keep skin on

1 cup baby spinach leaves

thumb-size piece of fresh ginger, peeled and cut into small pieces

½ cup ice

½ cup water

How to: 

1 Place all the ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth.

2 Divide into two glasses and serve.

2. CARROT PINEAPPLE SMOOTHIE 

Ingredients: 

¾ cup pineapple, chopped

½ cup ice

1/3 cup orange juice

¼ cup carrot, chopped

½ banana, sliced 

How to: 

1 Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until well combined.

2 Divide into two glasses and serve. 

3. SUPER BERRY SMOOTHIE 

Ingredients: 

1 tub (175ml) strawberry yoghurt

1 cup frozen mixed berries

½ cup milk

2 tablespoons rolled oats

2 teaspoons honey

How to: 

1 Use a blender, stick blender or food processor to whizz up the yoghurt, berries and milk.

2 Stir through the oats, making sure it’s well combined.

3 Divide into two glasses and serve.
