The water crisis in the Western Cape is dire. As of this week the dams are at only 28% full and Level 4B water restrictions are in place. Meaning that each person should be using less than 87 litres of water per day.
So this drought in the middle of winter is no joke and it's something that Canadian artist Serge Belo knows a little something about. In 2001, a drought nearly destroyed all the plants in Belo's horticultural company and it inspired him to create this amazing art project.
The project, titles "A Water Mosaic With a Cause" aims to raise awareness of he global clean water crisis. From his website:
"Belo created an image composed of 66,000 cups of colored rainwater simulating levels of impurities found in water all over the planet. This major work of 3,600 square feet, representing a fetus in the maternal womb, emphasizes the necessity of water, even before birth, for each living person."
