There are so many special days reserved, all around the world, for the people in our lives that love and care for us most. For our mothers there’s Mother’s Day and for our fathers, Father’s Day, of course.
And I’m told there’s even a Friendship Day, which I wish I’d known about when I was a little younger.
On Sunday 8 October we'll celebrate all the grandparents in our life on Grandparents Day.

Grandma and grandpa, ouma and oupa, ugogo and umkhulu are of the most important people in our lives, and not just because they always have sweets in their handbags and tissues up their sleeves just as we’re about the sneeze.
They’re important because they are always there to give us the warmest snuggles and longest cuddles – an unconditional and unwavering love, like no other.

David Deutchman a grandpa in Atlanta in the U.S. is the perfect example of the love we so often take for granted, or rather, simply do not celebrate often enough.
This grandpa has been visiting premature babies in the ICU for 12 years as a volunteer. He holds and cares for newborn babies when their parents can’t be at the hospital. Not much else is known about him except that they call him a “baby buddy” or, our personal favourite, a “professional snuggler”. Have a look:

David is a retired marketing exec, but he says this is the best job he’s ever had. We, on the other hand, imagine that being his granddaughter or grandson would be the sweetest deal, ever!
This Sunday in honour of the grandparents we run to when we can’t get our way with our parents, when we need a bit of love and affection or simply a little attention, we’ll be celebrating the very necessary Grandparents Day. And we hope you will too!
We’ve put together a few cards and images for you to download, print out and give to your wonderful grandmas and grandpas. To download, click here or tap on the images below.
